Euskaltel to launch 4K STB

Spanish regional operator Euskaltel is set to roll out a new Android-based 4K UHD set-top box for fibre-optic subscribers later this month, reports website Xataka Movil, citing the company’s CEO Francisco Arteche. The launch will be accompanied by a variety of 4K content, taking advantage of the operator’s upgrade to Docsis 3.1 technology, due to be implemented in 40 percent of the network by June. The new technology means Euskaltel will also be in a position to offer symmetric connections, said Arteche, without providing any further details.

Vodafone is so far the only operator in Spain to have rolled out a 4K-compatible set-top box, expanding its 4K content to five dedicated channels, plus the top weekly football game (‘El Partidazo’) and a number of the most popular series from Netflix.
